Google is currently testing a new feature within Google Business Profiles called “Learn Something Specific.” This experimental tool uses generative AI to provide users with direct answers to detailed questions about a business and will replace the deprecated Questions & Answers section.
It’s part of Google’s broader push to compete with OpenAI and others by providing faster, more conversational results. Right now, Google is sometimes (but not always) automatically adding FAQ-style questions. In the future, it’s speculated that users will be presented with a more chatbot-like experience where they can then ask specific questions about a community or business, for example, “Does this apartment have in-unit laundry?” or “Is garage parking available?” The AI then generates an answer based on the information Google has gathered from the business’s website, profile, and other online sources.
The Problem: AI Isn’t Getting All the Details Right
While this feature offers promise, our early testing has revealed that Google’s AI doesn’t always identify amenities accurately. In particular, we’ve seen mistakes that exclude in-home washer/dryer listings and garage parking availability.
Why is this happening? Because the AI is pulling data from multiple sources, even small inconsistencies between a property’s website, listings, and Google Business Profile can lead to incorrect responses being shown directly in search results. These inaccuracies risk confusing potential renters and misrepresenting what your community actually offers.
What Respage Is Doing About It
To ensure our SEO clients’ profiles are accurate and competitive as this feature rolls out, Respage will be manually reviewing and updating the amenities, parking, and pets sections for all managed Google Business Profiles.
If your Google Business Profile is managed through an automated service, we recommend coordinating with them to determine how to correct or override these errors. Ensuring that your amenity data is consistent across all platforms will be increasingly important as AI-driven search expands.
Why It Matters
As Google continues to experiment with AI-powered features like “Learn Something Specific,” accuracy and consistency across your online listings will become critical. AI systems can only answer correctly when they’re trained on correct, structured data. And as you have heard us say before, right now that still requires human oversight.
Respage clients can rest assured: our team is monitoring these changes closely and taking proactive steps to keep your properties’ profiles accurate and optimized for AI-enhanced search.
