AI Search Optimization Is an Extension of SEO. Your Strategy Should Connect Both.

Apartment marketers are being asked to add another supplier to their budgets: an AI optimization company. The pitch often starts with a report showing whether your community appears in AI answers and where competitors show up instead. Sometimes you get a report asking you to make changes to your website because it’s blocking data from being read by AIs.*

That information can be useful. But before signing another contract (or panicking about your website), ask a more important question: Who will use those findings to improve your results?

Optimizing for AI belongs within your broader search strategy. For apartment communities, the strongest approach improves both traditional SEO and AI search results by integrating performance data, including AI visibility and your proprietary performance data, with multifamily expertise. That is how Respage approaches SEO.

And if you’re really looking to ensure your website is what’s sourced in AI results, we recently hosted a webinar on just that. Watch here.

SEO is the foundation for AI visibility

Google’s guidance is clear: the same SEO best practices apply to its AI Overviews and AI Mode. There are no additional technical requirements or special optimizations necessary to appear in those experiences. (developers.google.com)

Other AI platforms have their own systems, so Google’s guidance does not describe every AI practice. In particular, LLMs still rely on structured data supplied through schemas in your code. Still, it reinforces why apartment marketers should build on their SEO investment as search evolves rather than replace it.

Consider a renter asking for a two-bedroom apartment near a particular employer with covered parking or a garage and a pet-friendly policy. Your website needs clear, accurate information that answers all of those questions. Your location, floor plans, amenities, and policies need to be easy to find and understand. Your availability needs to be available and readable from your own site. (which is why you should make sure yours is, and not just presented via an iframe that pulls information from another site).

Creating that content and making it accessible is already central to good apartment SEO. AI search just gives that work another important purpose.

An AI visibility report is a starting point

A report can reveal gaps in Gemini, ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity is worth investigating, but it alone does not update your website, improve your neighborhood content, correct inaccurate information, or fix a technical issue.

If a company’s primary deliverable is another dashboard or monthly PDF, your team still has to decide what matters, assign the work, and make sure it gets done. Don’t ask two teams to evaluate problems that overlap by 90%.

Before hiring a separate AI supplier, ask:

  • Will you make changes or just give us a report that shows what is wrong?
  • How will your work connect with our existing SEO strategy?
  • If you are not making them, who is responsible for implementing recommendations?
  • How will we know whether the changes are working, i.e., generating qualified inquiries and tours?

How Respage connects the data to the work

At Respage, we use findings from our own proprietary AI visibility report alongside your other available data sources to inform one integrated strategy.

Search Console can help reveal how renters find your website. Website analytics and conversion data can help show what visitors do after they arrive. AI visibility findings add another perspective on where your community has opportunities to strengthen its presence. Your availability helps us know what unit types to prioritize.

Looking at these signals together helps our team know what to do next. A visibility gap is only a problem when we can connect it to relevant renter searches and meaningfully leads us to know which information needs to be added.

For example, suppose our AI visibility report suggests that people are searching for apartments near a major employer. Our process is to investigate the best way to get this content on your website. Sometimes you are better served by expanding content on one page rather than developing an entirely brand new page and diluting what might already be good coverage on an existing page.

An AI visibility report helps identify the question. Broader data analysis and our team’s judgment guide the response.

AI supports the work. Apartment SEO professionals direct it.

Respage combines AI-assisted analysis with experienced SEO professionals who focus exclusively on apartment communities.

That specialization matters. Apartment SEO specialization means our team understands the limitations of Fair Housing rules and that more AI searches right now are focused on neighborhood and property research, not actually searches for apartments in an individual neighborhood. Knowing how those details help us execute campaigns that are in compliance with the law and distinguish meaningful opportunities from recommendations that we should pass on.

AI helps us analyze information and develop ideas efficiently. Our specialists evaluate those ideas, check accuracy, set priorities, and connect the work to your property’s goals. We bring together the strengths of each: your data, AI’s analytical capabilities, and the judgment of people who understand apartment marketing.

Choose a partner who turns insight into improvement

Your community deserves a search strategy that evolves with renter behavior and a team accountable for doing the work that you meet with regularly.

That is why Respage integrates SEO and AI optimization. We use our own AI visibility reporting, your broader performance data, AI tools, and dedicated apartment SEO expertise to pursue the strongest results for your community.

Before adding another AI report to your inbox, talk to Respage about a coordinated approach to SEO and AI visibility that turns findings into action.
